How Tridel Simplified Clean HVAC Access at Aqualuna
A project snapshot featuring BAUCO Plus II and BAUCO Air hybrid panels
Mechanical access points often risk breaking the visual flow of a high-finish space. In Toronto’s high-end Aqualuna condo project, Tridel needed access panels that would disappear into the finish while still allowing ongoing access to mechanical systems.
The challenge was clear: HVAC filters had to be serviceable without removing the entire panel.
The solution – the BAUCO Plus II/ BAUCO Air hybrid panels.
Project Snapshot: Aqualuna, Toronto
A beautifully designed space by Danish architects 3XN and built by Tridel, Aqualuna includes two 16-storey towers and 225 condo units in Bayside, a waterfront neighborhood just east of downtown.
BAUCO supplied 60 access panels to this project, including:
- BAUCO Plus II/BAUCO Air hybrid panels in custom sizes. These panels feature an access panel on top and return air grille on the bottom, sized for both HVAC filter replacement and full unit servicing.
- 12” x 12” BAUCO Plus II panels finished with faux concrete to blend into the hallway design.
- 24” x 24” BAUCO Plus II panels installed in the lobby, disappearing seamlessly into the painted ceiling.

Installation Approach
Tridel’s crew used a staged installation method to protect finishes and maintain precision. The air handler was installed and the wall framed, while drywall installation was delayed until HVAC work was complete.
Each panel frame was pre-mounted into a cut-to-fit drywall sheet, aligned with the equipment, then secured and finished once the mechanical work was done. This process:
- Protected the panels during rough-in
- Ensured accurate placement
- Streamlined finishing work

Why It Matters
The right panel choice combined with a thoughtful installation process delivered significant project benefits:
- Reduced labor with faster, more efficient finishing
- Less visual disruption with panels that disappear into the design
- Lower costs and fewer callbacks
- Clean, precise results that met the architect’s vision
“These panels are solving a problem for us and we’d definitely buy them again. You can open the grille portion to swap HVAC filters without touching the rest of the panel. Your solution gives us the clean look we wanted, with less labor and less cost.”
— Enzo Gallo, Assistant Site Superintendent, Tridel
